Note
• |
To open Display, click Start, click
Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then
click Display. |
• |
A higher screen resolution reduces the size of
items on your screen and increases the relative space on your
desktop |
• |
You can switch your screen resolution
temporarily to 640 X 480 if you have games or other programs that
are set to run at that resolution. To switch, right-click the game
or program (on the desktop or on the Start menu), and then
click Properties. Click the Compatibility tab, and
then select the Run in 640x480 screen resolution check box.
Your display reverts to its default resolution when you close the
program. |
• |
Your monitor and video adapter determine how
much you can change your screen resolution. You may not be able to
increase the resolution above a certain level. |
• |
Changes to screen resolution affect all users
that log on to the computer. |
• |
Only the recommended screen resolutions are
listed. For additional settings, click the Advanced button on
the Settings tab, click the Adapter tab, and then
click List all Modes. Select the resolution, color level, and
refresh rate you want. |
How to change the
screen resolution in Windows 2000
- Minimize all applications so that you can see the desktop.
- Right-click anywhere on the desktop background (not on an
icon).
- In the resulting pop-up menu, choose Properties. This will
open the Display Properties dialog box.
- In the Display Properties dialog box, select the Settings
tab.
- In the Settings tab, in the lower right corner, is a "slider"
which allows you to change the screen resolution.
- Slide this control to the left to decrease the screen
resolution and to the right to increase the resolution. The
resolution will only change in preset steps usually starting
with 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 and getting increasingly larger.
IT is recommending at least 1024x768 unless you have a specific
reason to use a lower resolution.
- Try changing the resolution one step at a time. Click Apply
and then OK from the pop-up message screen to actually change
the screen resolution.
- If you see a message asking if you want to keep the new
settings, click the Yes button within 15 seconds. (If you don't
want to keep the changed screen resolution, either click the No
button or wait 15 seconds and the change will be reset to what
it was before.)
- Keep sliding the resolution control one step at a time until
you are satisfied. (Repeat steps 7 & 8.)
- When done, click the OK button to close the Display
Properties dialog box.
Notes:
- At higher resolutions, you may not be able to see as many
colors.
- Flat panel monitors have a prefered resolution. If you set
the display lower or higher, the display will be noticably more
blurry. The prefered resolution should be noted in your display
manual.
